Indiana Jones 5 all the updates so far

There are few film franchises in Hollywood that attain legacy over time and create an avid fandom that keeps asking for more films to come. Indiana Jones is a prominent franchise that entertained cine-goers for over four decades. But the last release in the series, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull received muted box office response from the audience upon its release. And now, Lucas Film will be treating the fandom with the upcoming film Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, with Harrison Ford returning to play the iconic character.

Production Progress so far:

The actual production phase started in June 2021 and much like most of the films in the pipeline during the global pandemic period, this film also had to face a lot of delays in the process. then Indiana Jones producer Frank Marshall confirmed the wrapped-up production schedule in February 2022. The first date to be released was July 2019, then Disney pushed this film more years ahead. Although the official trailer was launched on 2nd Dec 2022, the exclusive sneak peek was also unveiled at D23 Expo.

Speculations about the story:

From the last film in the Indy series, everyone thought if it is the next edition to the storylines, we might see the continuation with Mutt William, son of Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood. But producer Frank Marshall made it very clear while talking to the media that Indy would still be the protagonist of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, although he did not give any other details about what the story would be. It is well speculated around the fans that if this iteration is placed in the 60’ to 70’ era, then the plotline might involve the cold war, space exploration, or other big events. Most of the fans were disheartened to know that Steven Spielberg will not return to direct this film, so Lucas Films hired James Mangold as the director, who previously worked on Logan and Ford vs Ferrari.

The casting:

Producer Frank Marshall is pretty adamant that Harrison Ford will be the protagonist and that this would be another adventure in his chronicles. But Harrison Ford also announced at the D23 Expo that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be his last outing as Indy. Series regular John Rhys-Davies will be back to play the character of Sallah. Fleabag fame Phoebe Waller-Bridge is cast as Helena, the goddaughter of Indiana Jones. Black Panther actress Shaunette Renée Wilson will be the government agent named Mason and Toby Jones will play a character named Basil. Actor Mads Mikkelsen as Voller and Boyd Holbrook as Klaber will be the villainous characters in the film. Not much has been disclosed about what roles are played by Antonio Banderas, Thomas Kretschmann, Olivier Richters, and Ethann Isidore. I guess we have to wait until 30th June 2023 and figure it out in the theaters.
